The Department of Sociology, Shillong College, hosted a State-Level Workshop on “Creating a Well-Functioning Care Economy” at the Shillong College Auditorium in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya on the 23rd of July, 2026 from 10:00 AM onwards. The primary objective of the workshop was to formulate key policy recommendations for the State of Meghalaya, as mandated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The program was graced by eminent dignitaries, with Dr. Sampath Kumar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests included: Shri Pravin Bakshi, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Social Welfare Department Shri Jagdish Chelani, IAS, Joint Secretary, Social Welfare Department Smt. Saloni Verma, IAS, Director, Social Welfare Department Dr. C. J. Thomas, Retired ICSSR Director The event saw active participation from officers across various Meghalaya Government departments, faculty members from different colleges in Shillong, the NSS Unit of Shillong College, and students from the Departments of Sociology and Business Administration. The workshop concluded as a resounding success, serving as an impactful platform for multi-sectoral dialogue. Constructive suggestions and actionable policy recommendations put forward by the participants will be formally forwarded to the Government for consideration and implementation.
